Police Arrest 26-Year-Old Suspect Over Murder of Anambra Nursing Student
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Ibekwe, in connection with the murder of 23-year-old nursing student Vivian Chilaka.
The incident occurred in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area, on June 14, 2026, and drew widespread public concern.
Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect was arrested on September 4 following credible information received by the command. Preliminary investigations indicated that he allegedly gained access to the building by climbing the fence with a ladder.
According to the police, a struggle ensued after the suspect entered the house, during which the victim was stabbed and later died. The suspect has also allegedly made statements linking him to other similar incidents in the community, which are still being investigated.
The command clarified that the landlord who was earlier suspected in connection with the case has been cleared. Members of the public were urged to disregard any previous suspicions against him.
Commissioner of Police Nnanna Ama thanked the people of Alor for their cooperation and the useful information that helped advance the investigation. The suspect remains in custody as police continue their inquiries and work to bring those responsible to justice.
