The Independent National Electoral Commission has offered to support the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board with its biometric verification technology as part of efforts to improve the integrity of JAMB’s examination processes.

The development followed a visit by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, and members of the Board’s management team to the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

Aina explained that JAMB was interested in collaborating with INEC because of the electoral body’s extensive experience in using biometric technology to identify and verify large numbers of Nigerians.

He noted that the Board was particularly interested in some biometric equipment owned by INEC that may no longer be in active use, seeking to deploy the technology to further strengthen candidate verification during examinations.

Responding to the request, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, welcomed the initiative and described JAMB as an important institution in Nigeria’s education system.

Amupitan directed the Commission’s Director of Information and Communications Technology, Dr Lawrence Bayode, to assess JAMB’s request and conduct a proof-of-concept exercise.

The assessment will determine the availability, technical condition and suitability of INEC’s biometric equipment for possible use by JAMB.

The INEC chairman also stressed the importance of collaboration among government agencies, saying institutions should leverage their expertise and resources to improve public service delivery.

Aina expressed appreciation for the response and reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to working with INEC, particularly in using technology to make its examination processes more secure, efficient and credible.
