UI Activates Master’s Degree Programme in Election Administration
The Department of Political Science at the University of Ibadan (UI) has introduced a new Master’s Degree Programme in Election Administration aimed at strengthening professional expertise in electoral management and democratic governance.
The programme is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge of election processes, election management systems, democratic institutions and administrative frameworks that support credible elections.
According to the department, the course will provide both theoretical and practical training for individuals interested in electoral administration, governance, public policy and democratic development.
The programme is open to graduates from the University of Ibadan and other accredited institutions, as well as professionals with relevant experience in election management and public administration.
Admission requirements include the prescribed academic qualifications and relevant O’Level credits, including English Language. The department also clarified that Mathematics is not a compulsory requirement for admission into the programme.
University officials said the initiative is intended to develop a new generation of professionals capable of contributing to transparent electoral processes and stronger democratic institutions.
The programme is expected to support capacity building in Nigeria’s electoral system by producing graduates with the skills required to manage and improve election administration at various levels.
Stakeholders believe the introduction of the course reflects growing interest in professionalising electoral management and promoting good governance through academic training and research.
The University of Ibadan expressed optimism that the programme will contribute to enhancing democratic practices and strengthening confidence in electoral institutions across the country.
