The Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, has died in Cairo, Egypt, after more than four decades on the throne of the historic Gumel Emirate in Jigawa State.

The late monarch was one of Northern Nigeria’s longest-serving traditional rulers, having ascended the throne in December 1980 following the death of his father. During his reign, he played a significant role in promoting peace, preserving cultural values and advancing community development within the emirate.
