Kira Taiwo, daughter of the late veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has continued to mourn her father, disclosing that she had hoped he would live to meet her second child. Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with stage four cancer, a diagnosis his family had made public only weeks before his passing while appealing for specialist medical care.

The actor’s death was first confirmed by Kira herself in an emotional Instagram Live broadcast, during which she broke down while trying to process the loss and reach out to other family members. In the days since, tributes have poured in from colleagues across the Nigerian film industry as well as public figures, with many describing Ogogo as one of the pillars of Yoruba cinema whose influence spanned more than four decades. He was buried the following day in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, in line with Islamic rites, with fellow actor Prince Jide Kosoko among those who confirmed the burial arrangements.

Kira has remained one of the most visible voices keeping her father’s memory alive publicly, having earlier led the family’s appeal for help when doctors ruled out further chemotherapy as his condition worsened. In her latest expression of grief, she reflected on wanting her father to witness a significant milestone in her own life, the arrival of her second child, a wish that his death has now left unfulfilled.

Ogogo built his acting career from humble beginnings, having spent about thirteen years working as a mechanic before transitioning fully into acting in 1994. He went on to become one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba-language cinema, earning acclaim for numerous roles including his portrayal of the Alaafin of Oyo in the acclaimed film Anikulapo. His death has been described by industry figures and government officials alike as a significant loss to Nigeria’s creative and cultural landscape.
