Gunmen who abducted National Youth Service Corps members travelling from Bayelsa to Abuja have demanded N20 million ransom for each remaining victim, a family member has said.

The corps members were taken on 26 August along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State after completing their three-week orientation camp.

Armed men intercepted two buses near Ogene Zaria; some passengers escaped into the bush.

Kogi Police said a joint team later recovered the abandoned vehicles and rescued 11 people, including the two drivers. Most of those freed were NYSC members. The command said operations were continuing to find those still missing.

A relative of one captive told reporters the abductors had contacted the family and asked for N20 million. Families have appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify efforts to free those still held.

Police have not independently confirmed the ransom figure. The search in the surrounding area remains ongoing.
