Benue Student Hospitalised After Alleged Hot Water Attack by Cousin
A 200-level Political Science student of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University in Benue State is receiving treatment in a private hospital in Makurdi after hit water was allegedly poured in her.
The victim, identified as Rose Adikwu, suffered severe burns.
According to her account, the incident followed disagreements with her cousin and co-tenant, Agbo Felicia, a 500-level Chemistry student of the same university. Rose said the disputes became intense, leading her to ask Felicia to leave the apartment they shared.
She alleged that after packing her belongings, Felicia prepared a hot mixture and poured it on her before locking the door and leaving. Neighbours who heard her cries intervened and helped rescue her. The police were invited, and Felicia was arrested.
Student Union President Akighirga Vitalis visited the victim in hospital along with other executives. He condemned the alleged attack and described it as a serious assault on a fellow student. He assured the family that the union would follow the matter closely and engage relevant authorities.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Peter Aondongu confirmed the incident occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026. He said the suspect had been arrested and that investigations were ongoing. The Students’ Union has called on students to resolve disagreements through peaceful means rather than violence.
