Troops Rescue Six Kidnap Victims in Katsina, Recover ₦800,000

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued six kidnapped victims and recovered ₦800,000 in cash from terrorists in Dandume Local Government Area on Saturday, the military said.

The rescue unfolded after terrorists intercepted a vehicle along the Dandume–Sheme Road and abducted all six occupants. Troops from Sector 2, responding to a distress call, made contact with the terrorists and forced them to abandon their captives and scatter into nearby bushes.

All six victims were rescued unharmed, according to the official statement. The cash and the vehicle were handed back to the victims in the presence of the Dandume Divisional Police Officer, whose name was not disclosed.

“Troops of Sector 2 conducting a fighting patrol responded swiftly to a distress call that terrorists had intercepted a vehicle and kidnapped six occupants along the Dandume–Sheme Road,” said Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West).

Danja added that troops “overwhelmed them with superior firepower,” forcing the terrorists to flee. The number of militants involved in the attack was not specified.

In a separate operation on Friday, troops from the same sector engaged terrorists along the Maraban Kankara axis in Kankara LGA. The troops pursued fleeing elements after the encounter and recovered one motorcycle. Details on the type of vehicle intercepted Saturday – whether commercial or private – also remain unclear.

The task force, Danja stated, “remains resolute in sustaining aggressive patrols and offensive operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and protect lives and property.”

He urged communities to provide timely and credible information to security forces, adding: “The Theatre appreciates the continued support of members of the public and urges communities to provide timely and credible information to security forces in support of ongoing operations.”
