Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said Nigeria can no longer depend solely on a centrally controlled policing system to effectively tackle its growing security challenges.

He noted that the country’s evolving security threats require new approaches and reforms capable of addressing the realities across different regions.

Gbajabiamila explained that the current security environment demands greater flexibility, improved coordination and more effective responses to emerging threats.

According to him, Nigeria’s security challenges have become increasingly complex, making it necessary to review existing structures and adopt strategies better suited to present realities.

He stressed the importance of developing a policing framework that allows for stronger community engagement and improved intelligence gathering at the local level.

The presidential aide said security reforms should focus on improving the capacity of law enforcement agencies while ensuring that citizens receive adequate protection.

He also highlighted the need for collaboration among federal, state and local stakeholders in addressing insecurity across the country.

Gbajabiamila maintained that a modern security architecture must reflect the diversity of Nigeria’s security concerns and provide mechanisms for rapid response to threats.

He expressed confidence that ongoing discussions on policing reforms would contribute to strengthening national security and improving public safety.

The remarks come amid continuing debates over proposals aimed at decentralising policing and enhancing the effectiveness of security operations nationwide.

He reiterated that ensuring the safety of lives and property remains a priority and called for sustained efforts to build a more responsive and efficient security system.
