Police Arrest Two Suspected Robbers, Recover Pistols, Cartridges in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges from them.

The suspects, identified as 46-year-old Adeyinka Onakomaya and 48-year-old Olayiwola Kehinde, were arrested following an investigation into the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix allegedly connected to an armed robbery operation in April 2026.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday.

According to Babaseyi, the arrests were achieved through sustained intelligence gathering and follow-up operations by the command’s Anti-Robbery Team after the vehicle was recovered.

He said operatives traced the suspects to separate locations around the Babaode area along Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.

Babaseyi said preliminary findings indicated that the suspects and other members of their alleged gang were involved in the April robbery and several other incidents of armed robbery and vehicle theft across Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan.

A search conducted during the operation reportedly led to the recovery of three locally manufactured pistols and 18 rounds of live ammunition.

The police spokesperson added that the suspects allegedly admitted during interrogation to taking part in multiple robbery operations within the region and were providing information to investigators.

The command said efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest other members of the syndicate who remained at large for possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, praised the Anti-Robbery Team for its persistence and effectiveness in pursuing the investigation beyond the initial recovery of the stolen vehicle.

Ojajuni said the arrests and recovery of the firearms demonstrated the command’s resolve to follow criminal cases through to their logical conclusion.

He also urged residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious individuals, movements or activities to the police through the command’s emergency channels.
