Ogogo’s Daughters Seek Help as Veteran Actor Battles Stage-Four Cancer
The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father after revealing that he is battling stage-four cancer.
The daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, made the disclosure in separate emotional appeals on social media, seeking assistance from medical professionals and healthcare facilities that may be able to provide further treatment for the actor.
Lima, in an emotional video, said the family had been struggling to find a hospital willing to continue treating their father.
She appealed to medical experts and other well-meaning Nigerians with access to appropriate cancer treatment to intervene, stressing that the family’s immediate concern was finding suitable medical care for the veteran actor.
Kira also confirmed that their father had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer and appealed to members of the public to assist the family in exploring available treatment options.
The development has sparked concern among fans and colleagues in the Nigerian entertainment industry, with several Nollywood personalities rallying support for the actor.
Actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo called for assistance for Ogogo, urging medical professionals and suitable healthcare facilities to review the actor’s medical condition and advise the family on possible treatment options.
Other entertainers, including Muyiwa Ademola and Bimbo Oshin, have also expressed support for the veteran actor and his family.
Meanwhile, medical practitioner Olusina Ajidahun, popularly known as The Bearded Dr Sina on X, provided some context regarding the treatment of patients with advanced cancer.
He explained that when cancer reaches stage four, some patients may be moved to palliative care, particularly when available curative treatments have been exhausted. Palliative care is aimed at managing symptoms, improving comfort and maintaining a patient’s quality of life.
Ajidahun also cautioned against relying on unverified herbal remedies as a treatment for advanced cancer, stressing the importance of seeking appropriate medical advice.
Stage-four cancer generally means that the disease has spread beyond its original location to other parts of the body. However, treatment options and outcomes vary depending on the type of cancer, the extent of its spread and the patient’s overall health.
The family’s appeal has generated an outpouring of concern from fans and colleagues, with many calling for appropriate medical intervention and support for the veteran actor.
Taiwo Hassan, 66, is a highly respected figure in the Yoruba film industry. Popularly known as Ogogo, he has enjoyed a career spanning several decades as an actor, producer and filmmaker.
As the family continues to seek assistance, attention remains focused on securing appropriate medical care and exploring available treatment options for the veteran actor.
The allegation that hospitals have refused to continue treating Ogogo is based on statements made publicly by his daughters, and the hospitals involved have not publicly responded to the claim at the time of publication.
