Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Spanish forward, Ferran Torres from Barcelona, with the World Cup-winning marksman putting pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the Parc des Princes until 2031. 

The Champions League holders are understood to have paid around €50m to prise the 26-year-old away from the Camp Nou, with the forward set to wear the number nine shirt for his new club. Torres arrives in Paris fresh off the back of the biggest moment of his career, having scored the only goal in extra time as Spain defeated Argentina in the World Cup final earlier this year, a strike that earned him the Man of the Match award and helped La Roja add a second star to their shirt.

Born in Foios, Spain, Torres first discovered football through futsal before joining Valencia’s academy at the age of seven. He broke through at his boyhood club to become the first player born in the 21st century to feature in La Liga, going on to star for Manchester City and later Barcelona, where he made 207 appearances, scored 65 goals and won three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and two Spanish Super Cups. With just a year left on his Barcelona contract and the Catalan club unable to meet his demands for a renewal amid financial fair play constraints, Torres opted to push for a fresh challenge, with PSG moving decisively to beat competition from other European suitors to his signature.

At international level, Torres has earned 65 caps for Spain, having progressed through the country’s youth ranks to senior football under Luis Enrique, the very coach who will now oversee him at club level in Paris.

Speaking on completing the move, Torres said he was delighted to begin a new chapter with such an ambitious club, thanking club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, sporting adviser Luis Campos and Luis Enrique for the opportunity.

The signing further strengthens an already formidable PSG attack as the reigning European champions look to defend their crown and continue their domestic dominance in the season ahead.
