Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence that Saturday’s governorship election in the state would be peaceful and that he would emerge victorious, shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit in Sagba Agbogunde Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.

The governor, who arrived at the unit around 8am accompanied by a large crowd of supporters, urged Osun residents to turn out en masse to exercise their franchise and remain vigilant throughout the process to ensure their votes count.

Speaking to journalists and supporters after voting, Adeleke described the election as a defining opportunity for the people of Osun to determine the direction of governance in the state for the next four years, appealing to voters to stay peaceful and law-abiding through both the voting and collation stages.

He charged residents to remain at their polling units to monitor proceedings strictly in line with guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, expressing confidence that a transparent process would ultimately favour him and his Accord Party.

The governor’s remarks come on the back of a campaign in which he had consistently urged supporters to defend their mandate, citing his administration’s record on healthcare, road infrastructure and workers’ welfare as the basis for his bid for a second term. He is being challenged by 14 other candidates, with the contest widely seen as a three-way race between him, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam.

The poll, coming after a campaign season marked by scattered incidents of violence and insecurity, is being closely watched as a test of credibility for the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general election.
