Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing has taken aim at people chasing social media prestige under the guise of being Lagos big girls, describing their glamorous online personas as a superficial illusion built purely for public consumption. 

In a story shared on her Snapchat on Friday, the actress distanced herself entirely from the pursuit of online validation, saying she would rather quietly enjoy her resources than perform a lifestyle for public approval.

Blessing poked fun at individuals eager to associate with high-society circles in Lagos, suggesting that many who project wealth online are quietly battling financial struggles behind the scenes.

Speaking in Pidgin English, she warned that anyone who gets close to some of these self-styled big girls would end up pitying them once the curtain fell on the online aesthetic. Rejecting the pressure to maintain a lavish public image, she jokingly branded herself a Yankee broke girl, someone who values her freedom and personal space over keeping up appearances, and said her only real concerns were having enough to eat and money to travel.

Despite the self-deprecating label, Blessing hinted at real financial strength underneath the joke, insisting that true wealth does not need to be paraded on social media to be validated. She argued that people like her, who choose not to publicise their lifestyle, often end up unfairly labelled as broke simply because they do not perform wealth online.

Her comments arrive against the backdrop of heightened scrutiny of Lagos high society culture, following a public fallout between Real Housewives of Lagos co-stars Adeola Diiadem Adeyemi and Dabota Lawson that has kept conversations about fake financial gestures and public perception trending. It is not the first time Blessing has waded into conversations about public judgment, having recently pushed back against critics who shame women over marital status and childlessness.
