The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations of arbitrary arrests, unlawful detention and extortion of bail fees involving the Divisional Police Officer of Jambutu Division.

The command disclosed this on Saturday through a statement issued on its X account by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.

The investigation follows a report calling for the removal of the Jambutu DPO over alleged misconduct involving the arrest and detention of residents and demands for money before granting bail.

The command said it had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigation Department, Hamzat Tambai, to conduct a thorough and discreet investigation into the allegations.

It stressed that the police would not tolerate arbitrary arrests, unlawful detention, extortion or other forms of professional misconduct by its personnel.

The command also appealed to anyone with relevant information about the allegations to assist investigators by providing specific details and any available evidence.

Members of the public were advised to submit such information to the SCID headquarters in Yola or the nearest police formation.

The Adamawa Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and the protection of citizens’ rights, saying the allegations would be addressed through the ongoing investigation.
