WAEC Defends Credibility of 2026 WASSCE Results, Rejects Social Media Claims
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has defended the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, urging the public to disregard unverified claims circulating on social media.
The Council said the results were generated through established marking, moderation and quality-control procedures designed to ensure fairness, accuracy and transparency.
WAEC’s response followed growing commentary from content creators and social media users questioning the reliability of the recently released examination results.
In a statement issued by its Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the examination body said it recognised the importance of public scrutiny but urged Nigerians to separate genuine concerns from claims that had not been verified.
The Council explained that the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted in line with its standard operational procedures and relevant educational policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
It added that candidates’ examination scripts pass through several stages of marking, moderation and auditing, with standardised marking schemes and vetted subject specialists involved in the process.
According to WAEC, the multi-level assessment system is designed to ensure that candidates receive objective and consistent scores.
The examination body also acknowledged that candidates and parents may naturally be anxious about examination outcomes, particularly when results determine students’ progression to higher education or other academic pursuits.
However, it advised the public not to rely on unverified information shared online, stressing that official channels remain available for anyone seeking clarification or wishing to raise concerns about a result.
WAEC said candidates and members of the public can submit queries through its offices across the country and its verified online communication platforms.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examinations and protecting the interests of candidates, while urging Nigerians to seek clarification directly from the examination body rather than relying on social media speculation.
