The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has disowned fake employment letters being circulated in its name and warned the public against falling for fraudulent recruitment schemes.

The commission said some of the documents were generated with artificial intelligence and carried names of people unknown to the regulator.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Eniola Akinkuotu, the NUPRC explained that criminal elements were using the forged letters to deceive job seekers and demand money under the pretence of securing employment with the commission.

The regulator has reported the activities to law enforcement agencies and is awaiting the outcome of investigations.

The commission stressed that it is not conducting any recruitment exercise at the moment. It urged Nigerians to disregard any purported offers of employment issued in its name and to remain cautious so they do not become victims of the scam.

NUPRC added that whenever it decides to open a recruitment process, the exercise will be carried out in line with applicable laws and government regulations.

The warning comes against the backdrop of a growing number of fraudulent job schemes targeting desperate job seekers with fake appointment letters and similar documents.

Authorities continue to advise the public to verify all recruitment claims directly through official channels before making any payments or sharing personal information.
