A 33-year-old poultry farmer, Oreoluwa Osonuga, has been abducted by armed men at the Ikenne Farm Settlement in Ogun State, with his abductors reportedly demanding N500 million for his release.

Osonuga was kidnapped at about 12:05 p.m. on Sunday while leaving the farm settlement, according to the chairman of the settlement, Seye Kehinde, who disclosed the incident in a statement on Monday.

Kehinde said the gunmen opened fire on Osonuga’s vehicle before forcing him into the nearby bush.

He said security personnel were immediately alerted, while soldiers deployed from Ilese joined the search operation but were unable to locate the victim.

The settlement chairman said the abductors briefly contacted the victim’s family at about 5 p.m. on Sunday using Osonuga’s mobile phone and demanded N500 million as ransom.

He said there had been no further communication from the kidnappers as of Monday, despite sustained efforts by the police, anti-kidnapping operatives, soldiers and other security personnel to secure the farmer’s release.

Kehinde said the Ogun State Commissioner of Police was aware of the situation and the ongoing security efforts.

The latest incident has renewed concerns among farmers in the settlement, where another farmer was reportedly abducted about four months ago.

According to Kehinde, the earlier incident occurred on April 1, 2026, with the victim spending several days in captivity before regaining freedom after a ransom was paid.

Osonuga’s granduncle, Soga Osonuga, confirmed the abduction, saying the incident had left the family deeply worried.

Soga said the family was informed after a call was received on Sunday and appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and rescue the farmer.

He described Osonuga as a young man working to establish himself through agriculture and said his abduction had caused considerable emotional distress among relatives, friends and well-wishers.

The family urged the government and security agencies to act swiftly to secure his safe return.

Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Ogun State Police Command were unsuccessful as calls to its spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, were not answered. Messages sent to his WhatsApp account had also not received a response as of press time.

The abduction occurred days after a joint operation involving the police, Department of State Services and Nigerian Army rescued seven students abducted from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade.

Three suspected kidnappers were reportedly neutralised during that operation.
