The Nigerian Law School has launched an investigation into the death of a 23-year-old student, Faith Alayande, who died after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a hostel at its Lagos campus.

Alayande, a student of the Enugu campus, was in Lagos for an externship programme when the incident occurred at about 4 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026.

The development was confirmed on Monday by Aderonke Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration of the Nigerian Law School.

Osho said preliminary information available to the institution indicated that Alayande sustained serious injuries after falling from the hostel rooftop and subsequently died.

She said the school management was working with relevant authorities and the deceased’s family to determine what led to the incident and ensure that all necessary procedures were followed.

The institution expressed sadness over the student’s death and extended its condolences to her family, colleagues and others affected by the tragedy.

According to the management, the family has requested privacy while grieving and appealed to members of the public and the media to respect the request.

The school also urged the public to refrain from actions that could worsen the family’s distress at the time.

The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident, saying the hostel matron reported that the student was found unresponsive within the premises.

Police operatives reportedly visited the scene and subsequently evacuated Alayande’s remains to a morgue.

The command said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

The Nigerian Law School reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of its students and staff, as investigations into the incident continue.
