A 20-year-old member of the Jamat Ahlus Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihad (JAS) has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

The terrorist, identified as Muhammad Abubakar, surrendered on Aug. 7 to troops of the 202 Battalion at New Abaram Resettlement Village, according to a military source who spoke to Zagazola Makama.

The source said Abubakar escaped from a terrorist camp in Zarmari amid intensified military operations and disagreements within the group’s enclave.

He reportedly arrived at the military position with three mobile phones and ₦3,000 in cash.

The source said troops subsequently subjected him to screening and documentation before placing him in the custody of the 21 Military Intelligence Regiment.

He is expected to be evacuated to the 7 Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation and other necessary action.

The surrender comes as troops maintain pressure on terrorist groups operating around the Bama axis, with military operations targeting insurgent enclaves and disrupting their networks.

The ongoing operations are also aimed at encouraging members of the terrorist groups willing to abandon their activities to surrender to the authorities.
