Security analyst, Zagazola Makama has reported that Ibn Mohammed bin Shakau, the biological son of the late Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, has emerged within the ranks of the insurgent group.

The development has raised concerns about the possible continuation of networks linked to his father.

Abubakar Shekau led Boko Haram after the death of its founder, Mohammed Yusuf, and was associated with some of the most violent periods of the insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East. He was known for an uncompromising leadership style and the use of propaganda videos.

Shekau died in 2021 during a confrontation with fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province. His death significantly altered the dynamics of the insurgency in the Lake Chad region.

The reported emergence of his son is being closely watched by security observers. Analysts note that any involvement by a family member of the former leader could influence the group’s remaining factions.

The claims remain based on intelligence reports and have not been independently confirmed by official military statements. Security agencies continue to monitor developments related to the insurgency in the North-East.
