Osun State First Lady, Titilola Adeleke on Monday led a group of women in a protest against what they described as indiscriminate arrests and rising violence ahead of Saturday’s governorship election. The march began along the Osogbo-Ilobu Road and ended near the Osun State Police Command.

She was joined by women from various trades and artisans’ groups, as well as the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and other officials. The protesters carried placards with messages calling for a free and fair election, an end to arrests of their husbands, and police neutrality.

Adeleke demanded a peaceful poll and called on the police to invite some All Progressives Congress chieftains for questioning over alleged violence. She also criticised the recent arrest and treatment of a state commissioner.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Samuel Etaifo, received the protesters and assured them that their concerns would be addressed. He noted that tension in the state had reduced since his arrival but cautioned against actions that could reignite conflict.

Etaifo emphasised the need for peace ahead of the election and warned that anyone found violating the law would face arrest. He commended the group for conducting a peaceful demonstration and arranged for them to be escorted back.
