Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has approved a monthly stipend of N30,000 for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in the state.

The governor announced the approval during the swearing-in ceremony for members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo Local Government Area.

Nwifuru, who was represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, security and development of corps members serving in the state.

Onyia described Ebonyi as a peaceful and welcoming state with opportunities for young people, urging the corps members to use their service year to develop themselves, build relationships across cultures and contribute to their host communities.

He said the state government would continue to provide support to ensure that corps members had a safe and productive service year.

“This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety,” Onyia said, while urging the corps members to take their primary assignments seriously and make meaningful contributions to the state.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Malgwi Pat Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi Government for its partnership with the scheme and its investment in youth development.

Maidariya, however, appealed to the state government to address infrastructure gaps at the orientation camp, which is located at the Old MacGregor College in Afikpo.

She specifically requested the renovation and modernisation of the camp’s central kitchen and the construction of a standard dining facility.

The NYSC coordinator also called for the establishment of a well-equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Centre to enable corps members acquire practical skills during their service year.

She further sought improvements to the camp’s perimeter fencing and upgrades to facilities within the multi-purpose hall.

Maidariya urged the newly sworn-in corps members to remain disciplined, participate actively in camp activities and uphold the core values of the NYSC, including patriotism, integrity and selfless service.

She also commended camp officials, resource persons and security agencies for their roles in maintaining order and ensuring the smooth conduct of the orientation exercise.

The ceremony included the administration of the Oath of Allegiance to the corps members, tactical displays by the Man ‘O’ War unit and traditional performances.

Officials also inspected and assessed ongoing infrastructure development projects within the orientation camp as part of activities marking the ceremony.
