Werder Bremen’s €28m Rising Star Left Stranded After Thieves Strip His Car of All Four Tyres

Werder Bremen’s highly-rated 19-year-old defender, Karim Coulibaly, was left stunned on Friday morning after discovering thieves had stolen all four tyres from his car overnight, just as he was preparing to head to training.

The centre-back, born in Oldenburg to an Ivorian father, shared a photo of his vehicle propped up on blocks with the wheels missing, captioning the post on social media with a wry remark that all he had wanted to do was get to training.

Despite the setback, Coulibaly still made it to the session on time, hitching a ride with teammate Salim Musah, who picked him up for the squad’s morning training.

The bizarre incident comes at a sensitive moment for the young defender, who has emerged as one of the standout breakout stars of the Bundesliga this season and has been the subject of persistent transfer speculation.

Coulibaly, who has held a regular starting spot at Werder Bremen since the beginning of the campaign, is reportedly exploring a move away from the club as he looks to take the next step in his career, with his market value now estimated at around €28 million.

According to Werder’s sporting director, Clemens Fritz, the club is banking on generating significant transfer revenue this summer, with Coulibaly, alongside teammates Jens Stage and Justin Njinmah, among those whose futures remain closely watched.

Coulibaly, who progressed through the youth ranks at Hamburger SV before joining Werder Bremen in 2024, has represented Germany at various youth levels, including the U17, U18, U19 and now U21 sides. While his club future remains uncertain amid growing transfer interest, the young star will, for now, need to sort out a set of new tyres before his next trip to the training ground.
