Tinubu Hails Economic Team, NGX Over Market Rebound

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Economic Management Team and the Nigerian Exchange Group for their roles in stabilising the economy and driving the rebound of the capital market. He received the board and management of the NGX at the State House in Abuja.

The NGX delegation briefed the President on the market’s growth from about N30 trillion in 2023 to N160 trillion. Tinubu attributed the progress to ongoing reforms aligned with global best practices, which he said had created a foundation for sustainable economic growth.

He specifically praised key members of the economic team, including the Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele, Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu, Central Bank Governor Yemi Cardoso, and NRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji. Tinubu noted that the economic situation inherited by his administration was challenging but expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to achieve prosperity.

The President emphasised the importance of private sector participation and said the target of a $1 trillion economy was realistic given the country’s population, resources, and human capital. He also disclosed plans to reform and list the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on the capital market.

NGX officials reported that the All-Share Index had risen significantly and projected further growth. They expressed optimism that continued reforms would attract more investors and support Nigeria’s economic transformation.
