The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has redeployed and removed the Officer-in-Charge of the Ibara Medium Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, along with two other principal officers, following a viral TikTok live stream conducted by a death row inmate using a smuggled mobile phone.

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, confirmed that the prohibited device was recovered during a search operation and secured as an exhibit, while the inmate involved was transferred to a higher-security custodial facility. Officials explained that the immediate removal of the facility’s leadership aims to ensure an unhindered, transparent, and impartial investigation into how contraband breached prison security.

The Service stated that administrative inquiries are underway to determine whether personnel, fellow inmates, or external collaborators aided or abetted the breach, warning that any individual found complicit will face severe disciplinary sanctions in accordance with civil service and custodial regulations.
