PRESS STATEMENT

President Tinubu Needs Monthly Policy Focus and Quarterly Leadership Empowerment Summit to Deepen Governance

Abuja, Nigeria

August 5, 2026

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT IG) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enthrone a Monthly Policy Focus and Quarterly Leadership Empowerment Summit for political appointees, state governors and local government chairmen as a strategic framework for driving policy coordination and accelerating grassroots development across Nigeria.

The Convener of BAT IG, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, posited that while the Tinubu administration has undertaken bold economic reforms and significantly increased financial allocations to states and local governments, the greatest challenge facing the country is no longer the availability of resources but ensuring that every tier of government works with a shared vision and clearly defined priorities in governance and development.

He observed that since assuming office, President Tinubu has confronted insecurity, economic uncertainties arising from fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate reforms, infrastructure deficits and power sector challenges while simultaneously expanding investments in critical national projects. These include the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway, the Shagamu Ijebu Ore Benin and Ife Ibadan road corridors, the Sokoto Badagry Super Highway, rail and gas infrastructure, the new national minimum wage, improved welfare for security personnel, student loan initiatives and the uninterrupted academic calendar in public universities.

Atoyebi stated that despite these achievements, many Nigerians remain unconvinced because the impact of increased allocations to sub national governments has not translated into visible and coordinated development in many communities.

He stressed that the Presidency can bridge this gap by introducing a Monthly Policy Focus that assigns a single national development priority to all tiers of government. Such priorities could include rural access roads, primary healthcare revitalisation, agricultural productivity, youth empowerment, market development or support for small businesses, allowing governments across the federation to channel resources towards measurable outcomes within a defined period in a peer review mechanism approach.

The BAT IG Convener also proposed a Quarterly Leadership Empowerment Summit where the President, governors, ministers, local government chairmen and key political appointees would review progress, exchange best practices, strengthen policy execution and reinforce a common national agenda.

He explained that the model mirrors successful leadership systems adopted by globally recognised institutions where regular engagement, shared objectives and continuous performance reviews ensure unity of purpose and consistent execution.

Atoyebi further recalled that President Tinubu employed a similar leadership approach during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State through regular engagements with cabinet members and local government leaders, a strategy that contributed significantly to policy implementation and institutional reforms.

He maintained that institutionalising these meetings at the national level would enhance accountability, improve policy alignment, eliminate duplication of projects and ensure that increased public spending produces tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group expressed confidence that a structured system of monthly policy direction and quarterly leadership empowerment would strengthen governance, deepen collaboration across the three tiers of government and accelerate the delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the benefit of all Nigerians.
