The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of involvement in the abduction of three newly graduated military recruits kidnapped in neighbouring Zamfara State.

The command said the recruits, all indigenes of Kebbi State, were abducted in July along the Kwanan Mayanchi–Gurusu axis of the Anka–Bukuyum road in Zamfara.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the suspects were apprehended at about 6:15 a.m. on Saturday.

He identified the suspects as Mallan Abubakar of Gargam Village, Bagega, in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and Usman Muhammadu of Ajera, Ilorin, Kwara State.

According to the police spokesperson, one of the suspects made useful disclosures during preliminary interrogation regarding the abduction of the victims.

“During preliminary investigation, one of the suspects made useful disclosures regarding the abduction of the three military recruits in July 2026 along the Kwanan Mayanchi–Gurusu axis of Zamfara State,” the statement said.

The command identified one of the rescued recruits as Kabiru Hassan, a resident of Ribah in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while the two other victims are from Zuru Local Government Area.

Police confirmed that the three recruits have regained their freedom but did not disclose when they were released or the circumstances surrounding their rescue.

The command also did not state whether a ransom was demanded or paid, or whether the suspects were arrested before or after the victims were freed.

According to the statement, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and to identify other individuals who may have been connected to the abduction.

The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Umar Hadejia, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that everyone linked to the crime is identified, arrested and prosecuted.
