Kaduna Mother, 3 Daughters Escape After 180 Days in Captivity

A woman abducted from Ariko village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State has regained her freedom after spending about 180 days in captivity with her three daughters.

The family escaped from their captors’ hideout over the weekend.

The woman, whose identity was withheld, was kidnapped while pregnant along with her daughters aged four, six, and 12. She gave birth while in captivity, but the newborn died about three weeks later.

Security analyst, Reuben Buhari said the mother and her daughters fled the camp on Saturday and began a long trek through the bush despite being weak and exhausted. The youngest daughter, four-year-old Christy, was ill during the journey and had to be carried by her mother and later by her 12-year-old sister.

The family spent the night in the bush before continuing the following day. Tragically, the four-year-old died during the trek. The mother and her remaining daughters eventually reached a community in Kachia, where residents helped them and arranged medical attention.

Officials noted that 33 other abductees from Ariko and neighbouring communities remain in captivity. Appeals have been made for continued efforts to secure their release and ensure their welfare.
