Troops belonging to the 135 Special Forces Battalion, operating under Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai at Dutsen Kura, successfully thwarted an ambush and abduction attempt by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, safely rescuing 31 civilian victims.

The operational intervention occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, after insurgents intercepted four civilian vehicles and forcibly seized their occupants. The military detected the attack in real-time utilizing advanced technological surveillance infrastructure, prompting the immediate deployment of a Quick Response Force.

Military personnel made direct tactical contact with the fleeing terrorists as they attempted to withdraw toward the Mangari-Dora axis.

In an official public briefing regarding the successful counter-operation, the Acting Military Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, detailed the military’s swift execution and complete recovery of the intercepted assets.

“Troops made contact with the terrorists as they fled towards the Mangari-Dora general area. During the operation, troops also recovered motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. All 31 civilians were rescued unharmed, while the four civilian vehicles were recovered intact,” Captain Goni stated.

Following the tactical engagement, troops established full operational dominance across the surrounding terrain and conducted battlefield clearance procedures to prevent the insurgents from regrouping. The rescued civilians and their recovered vehicles were safely escorted to Buratai, where the victims regained full possession of their property and were allowed to safely proceed with their travel plans.
