President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, ending the operations of the 25-year-old body originally established during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted the following key points:

President Tinubu directed that all functions and ongoing matters previously handled by the committee be transferred to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

The Presidency stated that a review revealed the committee had expanded its activities beyond its original mandate, resulting in multiple litigations across the country. Consequently, the government determined that its continued existence was no longer justified.

The dissolution officially takes effect retroactively from November 5, 2025. The committee’s erstwhile Secretary, B. S. Dutsin-Ma, has been directed to immediately cease acting on behalf of the committee or the Federal Government on any related matters.

Established in 2000, the PIC was created to oversee the privatization, sale, and lease of federal landed assets under the government’s monetisation policy, which aimed to convert government-owned housing and physical assets into cash while ending in-kind perquisites for public servants.
