The Federal Government, through the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has officially commissioned and handed over 20 resettlement housing units to families of internally displaced persons affected by recurring flooding across Benue State.

Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Sadiq Yelwa, announced the project inauguration during a ceremony at Mbagen in Buruku Local Government Area, noting that the resettlement units aim to restore dignity and provide secure shelter to displaced victims. Represented by the commission’s Director of Finance and Administration, Jimoh Gabi, Yelwa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to improving living standards and addressing environmental and socio-economic challenges within hydropower-producing communities.

Out of 63 housing units approved by the commission for flood-affected areas across Benue State, the initial 20 completed structures are now fully ready for occupation. The initial phase comprises 10 houses in Buruku Local Government Area and another 10 in Guma Local Government Area.

Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, N-HYPPADEC’s Director of Engineering and Technical Services, Prof. Daniel Ipilakya, highlighted the initiative as a major safety intervention designed to strengthen climate resilience and disaster risk reduction. Speaking on behalf of Governor Hyacinth Alia, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Deborah Aber, commended the Federal Government and N-HYPPADEC for delivering compassionate infrastructure solutions and assured full state cooperation in guiding beneficiaries into their new homes.
