The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially dismissed circulating media reports alleging that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation for visa racketeering.

In an official statement issued in Abuja by the anti-graft agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the commission described the online reports as completely unfounded and misleading.

“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to reports circulating in a section of the media alleging that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, is under investigation by the Commission over alleged visa racketeering,” Oyewale stated. “The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that CG Nandap is not under investigation by the EFCC for any offense whatsoever, including the alleged visa fraud.”

Clarifying the true scope of the ongoing legal proceedings, the spokesperson noted that while lower-level officers are being prosecuted, the NIS leadership is not implicated. “While it is true that the Commission is prosecuting some personnel of the Service for their alleged involvement in visa racketeering, and may still arraign more suspects at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the Comptroller General is not one of them,” he explained.

The EFCC emphasized that Nandap “has no connection whatsoever with the ongoing case,” urging members of the public and media organizations to disregard the unverified allegations and verify information with official sources before publishing reports concerning active investigations.
