Lebanese Soldier Killed, Two Injured After Army Vehicle Hits Explosive in Southern Lebanon
A Lebanese soldier was killed and two others injured when their vehicle drove over an explosive device in southern Lebanon.
The incident occurred in the area of Al-Mansouri, within the Security Zone. The Israel Defense Forces said the explosive device did not belong to them and was most likely placed by the Hezbollah terrorist organization.
The IDF stated that the Lebanese Army vehicle entered the Security Zone without prior coordination, as required by the existing mechanism. Following a review, it was determined that the device was not planted by the IDF. The Israeli military called on Lebanese civilians and forces to avoid entering areas where Hezbollah continues to pose a threat and to coordinate movements in advance for their safety.
The tragic incident has heightened tensions in the region, with both sides exchanging accusations. The Lebanese Army has been operating in the area amid ongoing security challenges.
The loss of the soldier has been widely condemned, with calls for calm and de-escalation from various quarters.
The IDF emphasised that it has not been present in the specific area recently. The event underscores the dangers posed by unexploded devices and the importance of coordination in sensitive zones. Investigations are expected to continue as both sides seek to clarify the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
The incident comes at a time when the situation in southern Lebanon remains fragile. Many hope that such tragic events will not lead to further escalation between the parties involved.
The families of the affected soldiers have been offered condolences as the Lebanese Army mourns the loss.
