Court Orders Final Forfeiture of Aisha Achimugu’s N8.9bn Assets to Federal Government

A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja, on Thursday ordered the permanent forfeiture of assets valued at about N8.9 billion linked to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu to the Federal Government.

The order was issued by Justice Jude Onwugbuzie while ruling on an application brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which sought the final forfeiture of the properties on the grounds that they were connected to unlawful activities.

Among the assets forfeited are jewellery estimated at N4.65 billion, 11 luxury vehicles worth N4.29 billion, as well as $50,000 and N30 million in cash.

The EFCC argued that its investigation showed the assets were proceeds linked to illegal activities and asked the court to vest ownership of the properties in the Federal Government.

In his ruling, Justice Onwugbuzie granted the commission’s request and directed that the jewellery, vehicles and cash be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

More details to follow.
