Toddler, 3 Others Killed as Russia, Ukraine Exchange Air Strikes
A Russian air assault targeting Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region has left four people dead, including a toddler, amid a series of deadly cross-border strikes between the two warring nations.
According to Oleh Hryhorov, the head of the Sumy regional military administration, a Russian drone hit a residential home, setting the building ablaze and killing an elderly man, two women, and a young girl who was not yet two years old. The tragic incident occurred just a day after a massive overnight pummelling of the capital city, Kyiv, which left at least thirty people dead and damaged dozens of residential buildings.
The fatal strike in Sumy was part of a broader, volatile exchange of fire along the border territories. In retaliation, local officials reported that Ukrainian counter-attacks on Russia and Moscow-occupied areas claimed at least ten lives.
A Ukrainian strike hitting a market in a Russian-controlled section of the southern Zaporizhzhia region killed five civilians who were out purchasing groceries, while separate border shelling incidents claimed additional lives in Russia’s western Belgorod and Bryansk regions.
The intensifying air campaign continues to inflict severe casualties on both sides of the border, raising urgent civilian safety concerns as both militaries step up their long-range drone and missile infrastructure operations.
