Council of Yoruba Elders Launch Fundraising to Procure Drones, Fight Banditry
The Council of Yoruba Elders has launched a major fundraising campaign aimed at generating resources to combat the rising wave of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism threatening communities across ten states.
The intervention covers a broad regional scope, spanning Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, Kogi, Edo, and Delta states.
According to the group, the security initiative is designed to provide critical equipment and tactical operational tools to strengthen community defenses and improve the safety of residents within Yoruba-speaking areas.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the Secretary-General of the council, Dr. Victor Taiwo, appealed to well-meaning Yoruba individuals and the wider Nigerian public to support the fund financially.
He explained that the monies realized from the campaign will be channeled into acquiring sophisticated surveillance drones and other advanced security gadgets to boost intelligence gathering and operational response times.
Taiwo expressed strong confidence that this independent security intervention will drastically reduce cases of violent crime if adequate capital is made available.
The council leadership revealed that they have formulated a highly effective, specialized strategy capable of halting the spread of banditry and terrorism, though they choose to keep the operational details confidential at this stage.
They believe that once the necessary financial resources are secured, the implementation of this security plan can yield massive turnaround results within sixty days. The elders stated that they refuse to remain passive as armed groups try to expand their networks, noting that action is urgently needed to halt criminal expansion and help secure the freedom of citizens currently held in various forest enclaves.
