“I Don’t Dwell on the Past”,Says Toyin Abraham on Akindele Fallout
Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham has finally broken her silence on the public snub she suffered at the hands of colleague Funke Akindele months ago, though she chose to do so without reopening old wounds.
Speaking on the Morayo Show, Abraham was pressed on the incident but firmly declined to relitigate it, saying she prefers not to dwell on her past and that everyone is entitled to their own reactions and actions.
The comment refers back to a viral moment in March 2026 at the Lagos premiere of Iyabo Ojo’s directorial debut, The Return of Arinzo. In widely circulated footage from the event, Abraham was seen greeting Akindele, who was seated at a table with other industry figures, only for Akindele to appear to ignore her entirely, keeping her gaze elsewhere despite Abraham’s repeated attempts.
The clip split opinion online, with some viewers calling it a deliberate slight and others suggesting it may have simply been a chaotic, crowded moment that got misread.
In the aftermath, Abraham did not hide her hurt. She reportedly unfollowed Akindele on Instagram and, in a now-deleted comment, vowed she would never greet her colleague again. The fallout kept the story alive for weeks, with the two actresses’ long-running industry rivalry, one that has played out for years through dueling box-office releases, resurfacing as the central talking point.
Notably, the two women had appeared to patch things up months earlier, sharing a warm exchange at another film premiere in September 2025 that many fans took as a sign the years of tension were finally behind them. The March snub undid much of that goodwill, at least in the eyes of the public, and the moment even resurfaced as recently as May, when comedian Bovi jokingly recreated the snub on stage at the AMVCA awards, drawing laughs from the crowd, and even from Abraham herself, who admitted the joke was funny.
Beyond addressing the Akindele situation, Abraham used the interview to speak more broadly about where she is in her life and career, touching on her decision to lean into YouTube content after scoring a billion-naira box office hit, her marriage to fellow actor Kolawole Ajeyemi, and the values of respect and forgiveness she says she was raised on and hopes to pass on to her own children.
