Believe in Yourself, Stay Faithful, Davido Counsels Budding Artistes
Afrobeats star, Davido has advised upcoming musicians to stay grounded in their faith and never lose sight of God once fame and success arrive, warning that the entertainment industry is filled with temptations capable of pulling young artistes off course.
Speaking during a recent conversation with Kiss Xtra, the singer, born David Adeleke, said belief in oneself and consistent hard work were the foundations of any lasting music career before touching on the importance of spirituality. He explained that his own journey began with self-taught lessons, noting that he relied heavily on YouTube tutorials and guidance from people around him as he sharpened his craft in his early years.
Davido told aspiring artistes that passion for music alone was not enough, stressing that continuous improvement and discipline played a central role in helping him rise to stardom.
He added that staying close to God becomes even more critical after achieving success, since fame often comes packaged with distractions strong enough to make people forget the very source of their blessings.
His comments come against the backdrop of a growing conversation among Nigerians and other Africans about celebrities who appear to drift from their religious roots after finding fame, with several public figures openly admitting to reduced participation in church or other faith activities once their careers took off. Davido’s remarks position him as one of the voices pushing back against that trend, urging younger musicians to resist letting money and attention reshape their values.
The Afrobeats star, who recently released his 2026 single “I Know Who I Be” alongside South African artiste Jazzwrld, continues to be one of the most influential figures shaping conversations within Nigeria’s music industry, both on and off the stage.
