Troops Raid Imo Forest, Arrest Key Weapon Supplier, Seize Large Cache of Arms
In a major breakthrough against pipeline vandalism and violent crime in the South East, Nigerian troops have dismantled a critical criminal logistics node by arresting a top suspected weapons supplier in Imo State.
The successful operation was executed in the early hours of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade operating under the Joint Task Force (JTF) South East, code-named Operation UDO KA. Acting on precise and credible intelligence, the military forces conducted a coordinated search-and-raid operation tracking through the Akpe Aggah Egbema Forest axis. The sweep ultimately culminated in the apprehension of the suspect deep within the Obiakpu Forest, located in the Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to a formal statement released by the Nigerian Army on its official X (formerly Twitter) platform, initial investigations pinpoint the suspect as the primary armourer and logistics coordinator for a notorious criminal syndicate. This gang is heavily linked to targeted attacks on security personnel and strategic oil installations throughout the Ohaji-Egbema area.
During the raid, troops uncovered an extensive stockpile of weapons, heavily fracturing the group’s tactical strength. The recovered weapons cache included:
* 1 AK-47 assault rifle
* 1 M4A1 carbine
* 1 M16A2 rifle
* 5 pump-action shotguns
* 1 locally fabricated pistol
* 6 ammunition magazines
* A large volume of various types of live ammunition
The military described the operation as a crushing setback to the syndicate, stating that the seizure fundamentally disrupts the group’s logistics supply chain and cripples their ability to launch coordinated attacks.
The suspect remains in military custody, where he is undergoing intensive interrogation. The Army hopes the information gathered will fuel follow-up operations to locate, track down, and completely dismantle the remaining network of collaborators and operatives. Reassuring the public of their resolve, the Nigerian Army emphasized its dedication to protecting critical national economic assets and restoring peace to the region, while urging citizens to continue feeding security agencies with timely and actionable information.
