Northern Group Commends Tinubu’s Security Efforts, Calls for National Unity
The Northern Elders Progressive Movement (NEPM) has commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as notable progress in tackling insecurity, expanding infrastructure and promoting peaceful coexistence across the country.
The group said the Federal Government has demonstrated commitment and political resolve in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly in the North-West, where military operations have intensified against banditry and other criminal activities.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Sokoto by the movement’s Secretary-General, Mallam Yusuf Abubakar.
According to the group, recent military offensives have significantly weakened the operational capacity of armed bandits operating across several states in the region.
“The progress made in degrading the operational capacity of bandits across several states deserves recognition and encouragement. While isolated attacks still occur, there is no doubt that our gallant Armed Forces have intensified operations deep inside notorious forest hideouts, dismantling criminal enclaves and restoring hope to affected communities,” the statement said.
The movement welcomed reports of successful military operations carried out in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger and Kwara states, noting that security forces had destroyed several bandits’ camps and eliminated a number of notorious gang leaders during coordinated offensives.
It specifically praised Operation Fansan Yamma, describing it as one of the most effective security operations undertaken in recent times, and urged the military to sustain the campaign until lasting peace is restored across the affected areas.
The group also commended the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, for what it described as his strategic support and commitment to strengthening military operations, particularly Operation Fansan Yamma and other security initiatives in the North-West.
“It is important that Nigerians appreciate and support the sacrifices being made daily by our security personnel. Their courage, resilience, and patriotism deserve the collective backing of every citizen,” the statement added.
The NEPM further urged Nigerians to embrace unity regardless of political, ethnic or religious differences, stressing that sustainable national development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace, cooperation and mutual respect.
“No amount of sacrifice towards preserving Nigeria’s unity, political stability, and peaceful coexistence is too much. We must continue to tolerate one another, respect constituted authority, and work together for the good of future generations. Our country needs greater political goodwill, patriotism, and national solidarity now more than ever,” the group stated.
According to the movement, the Federal Government’s performance across critical sectors reflects its commitment to strengthening democratic governance, preserving national unity and creating the foundation for sustainable development despite prevailing economic and security challenges.
The group reaffirmed its support for government initiatives aimed at improving security, promoting peace and encouraging inclusive development, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through responsible leadership, national unity and sustained cooperation from citizens.
