Osun Muslim Group Backs Oyebamiji, Accuses Adeleke of Marginalising Muslims
A coalition of Muslim organisations in Osun State, comprising the Concerned Muslim Stakeholders and the League of Alfas, has endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The group announced its decision during a press conference in Osogbo on Saturday, where it also accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of failing to adequately represent the interests of Muslims during his administration.
In a statement jointly signed by its President, Sheikh Qozeem AbdulRahaman, and Secretary-General, Mallam Abdulganiy Sahid Olaide Ezra, the organisation said its endorsement followed a detailed assessment of the major governorship contenders, taking into account their records, political strength, commitment to religious inclusiveness and prospects at the polls.
Although the group acknowledged the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salam, as a respected Muslim, it said Oyebamiji possesses the political structure, statewide acceptance and electoral viability required to secure victory.
The stakeholders alleged that Muslims have been politically sidelined under the current administration, arguing that the continued Christian-Christian governorship ticket does not reflect the state’s religious diversity.
According to the group, its position should not be interpreted as opposition to Christians holding public office but as a call for fairness, equity and meaningful representation of the Muslim community in the state’s leadership.
The organisation also expressed concerns over what it described as the treatment of Muslims at Adeleke University, Ede, while questioning the level of support members of the Adeleke family have extended to Muslim-related causes.
It urged voters to consider issues of equity, inclusion and balanced representation when casting their ballots in the forthcoming election and called on Muslims across the state to rally behind Oyebamiji’s candidacy.
The group further condemned the recent incidents of political violence and killings recorded in the state, describing them as troubling and urging politicians, regardless of party affiliation, to conduct their campaigns peacefully.
Quoting passages from the Holy Qur’an, the stakeholders emphasised the sanctity of human life and reminded political actors that power ultimately belongs to God. They also offered prayers for peaceful elections and lasting stability across Osun State.
