Bandits Abduct Wife, Son of Kebbi APC Chairman in Yauri Midnight Raid
Suspected bandits have abducted the wife and son of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Yusuf Alhasan, in a midnight raid that has further deepened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the state.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday when armed gunmen stormed Alhasan’s residence in the Low-Cost area of Yauri and whisked away the two victims to an undisclosed location.
The incident was first made public through a post by security analyst and conflict reporter, Bakatsine on social media platform X, with details indicating that the attackers operated under the cover of darkness and left without encountering any resistance. At the time of filing this report, there was no immediate official statement from the Kebbi State Police Command, the state government or any other security agency regarding the abduction or the status of rescue efforts.
The attack on the family of a sitting local government party chairman marks another disturbing escalation in a pattern of brazen bandit activity targeting prominent individuals and their families across Kebbi State.
The state has witnessed a series of high-profile abductions in recent months, including the kidnapping and subsequent death in captivity of a prominent Islamic cleric from Koko-Besse Local Government Area, who was abducted alongside a former APC chairman from the same local government. Videos of both men pleading for help from their captors had earlier circulated widely on social media, generating significant public outcry.
The latest abduction adds to mounting pressure on state and federal security agencies to intensify counter-banditry operations across the North-West. Kebbi, alongside neighbouring states such as Zamfara, Sokoto and Katsina, has continued to record recurring incidents of kidnapping, armed attacks on communities and cattle rustling, despite sustained military campaigns under Operation FANSAN YAMMA and other security interventions in the region.
