PDP Accuses Oyebanji of Intimidating Opposition With Security Agencies

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has accused Governor Biodun Oyebanji of using security agencies to intimidate opposition members ahead of the 2026 elections. The party claimed that the governor is deploying state resources to harass political rivals.

This allegation has added tension to the already heated political atmosphere in the state.

According to the PDP, opposition members have been subjected to unwarranted arrests, threats, and constant surveillance by security operatives. The party alleged that these actions are designed to scare away anyone who might challenge the ruling party in the upcoming polls. The PDP called on the federal government to intervene and ensure a level playing field for all political parties.

Governor Oyebanji and his administration have not yet responded to these allegations. However, the state government has previously denied similar accusations, stating that security agencies operate professionally and without political bias. The governor’s camp has also accused the opposition of making false claims to gain public sympathy.

The 2026 governorship election in Ekiti is expected to be highly competitive. The PDP is hoping to reclaim power from the All Progressives Congress (APC), which currently controls the state. With the election drawing closer, political tensions are likely to rise, and both sides are already trading accusations of misconduct.

Political observers are now calling for calm and urging security agencies to remain neutral. They warn that any appearance of partiality could lead to violence or a loss of confidence in the electoral process. For now, the PDP has vowed to continue its campaigns despite what it calls intimidation, while the government has yet to officially respond to the latest accusations.
