Defence Minister Dismisses Alleged Coup Plot, Calls It “Futile”

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has described the alleged coup attempt involving some junior military officers as a “futile” effort, insisting that even civilians could have resisted such a move.

Speaking during an exclusive live interview on The Morning Show on Arise News, Musa said the plot reflected poor judgement and confusion among the officers involved, whom he described as “a bunch of confused junior officers who didn’t know their left from their right.”

He said the investigation into the matter had been thorough, adding that available evidence showed there was no justifiable reason for the alleged plot.

According to him, the current political and military climate in Nigeria does not support any form of unconstitutional takeover, noting that democratic governance is yielding better outcomes for both citizens and the armed forces.

Musa added that efforts are ongoing to improve the welfare of military personnel, including salary and allowance enhancements, stressing that the government is committed to strengthening both the institution and democratic rule.

He further said the incident is being used as a lesson to younger officers on why democracy remains preferable to military rule.
