Veteran Kannywood Actress, Wasila Isma’il Dies at 46
Her former husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, announced her passing in a social media post on Sunday, stating that she died at the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria Hospital in Kaduna.
According to him, the actress had battled illness for an extended period before her death. She is survived by her children.
Wasila was regarded as one of the notable figures in the Kannywood industry, earning recognition for her performances in several Hausa-language films.
She began acting in 1998 with the movie Jinin Masoya before gaining widespread popularity a year later through the film Wasila, directed by Yakubu Lere and featuring alongside Ali Nuhu.
Born in Kaduna, the actress became widely known after the success of the movie that shared her name.
In a previous interview, Wasila had revealed that the film was originally intended to be titled Jamila, but she requested a change because she was uncomfortable with the initial name.
Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, fans, and admirers across social media, with many remembering her impact on the Hausa film industry and describing her as a gifted actress whose legacy will endure.
