NRC Boosts Lagos-Ibadan Train Schedules to Accommodate Sallah Peak Travel
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has expanded its operations along the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) corridor by introducing extra daily trips to accommodate the massive surge of commuters traveling for the festive Sallah celebration.
The adjustment is aimed at providing seamless logistics, expanding transit capacity, and easing the perennial traffic congestion usually experienced on interconnected highways during major national holidays.
According to operational schedules released by the corporation’s management, the additional services will feature a multi-trip structure running across peak travel days from both terminal ends. Departures from the Mobolaji Johnson Station in Ebute Metta, Lagos, have been meticulously timed alongside return schedules leaving the Obafemi Awolowo Station in Moniya, Ibadan, ensuring that passengers have flexible morning, midday, and afternoon options.
The NRC management clarified that the short-term operational increase is a targeted intervention designed specifically to absorb the seasonal influx of holiday travelers. The corporation assured the public that all rolling stock and technical infrastructure have been thoroughly optimized to maintain absolute safety, efficiency, and reliability throughout the peak period.
Commuters have been urged to plan their itineraries in advance, arrive well ahead of scheduled departure times at their respective stations, and comply fully with all security screening and digital ticketing protocols to ensure orderly boarding operations. Normal train schedules are expected to resume across the corridor immediately after the festive holiday rush.
