Florida Man Arrested in Sting Targeting Child Exploitation

A 54-year-old Florida man was arrested last month after allegedly attempting to arrange a sexual encounter with someone he believed was a 14-year-old boy, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Alan Chambers was taken into custody on May 18 and charged with soliciting a minor via computer, transmitting harmful material to a minor, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. He was released on a $15,000 bond

According to an arrest affidavit, detectives posing as a teenage boy on Snapchat and Telegram exchanged messages with Chambers between February and May. Officials said he sent explicit photos and repeatedly expressed interest in meeting for sex, including asking whether the teen could travel to his workplace.

The affidavit also states that Chambers discussed concerns about being caught due to the age difference and sent additional messages soliciting sex from male prostitutes. When questioned by investigators during a traffic stop, Chambers acknowledged communicating with someone on Snapchat who said they were 14, authorities said.

Chambers lives in Winter Park with his wife and two children. As conditions of his release, he is barred from contacting anyone under 18, prohibited from using social media, and restricted to internet use only for work purposes.

The sheriff’s office said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to prevent online exploitation of minors.
