Power Surge Sparks Fire in Kwara Residential Building

A power surge has caused a fire outbreak in an eight-flat residential building in Kwara State.

The incident led to panic among residents as flames and smoke filled parts of the structure. Firefighters and local volunteers quickly responded to the scene to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from one of the apartments following a sudden high voltage of electricity. Many residents were at home at the time of the incident. Thankfully, no lives were lost, but some people suffered minor injuries while trying to escape or save their belongings. Several properties were also damaged by the fire.

The Kwara State Fire Service and other emergency teams worked hard to put out the flames. Residents in the affected area expressed frustration over frequent power surges that often damage electrical appliances and cause fires. Many called on electricity distribution companies to improve their services and prevent such dangerous situations.

This incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of electrical infrastructure in the state. Property owners and tenants are now being advised to install surge protectors and avoid overloading electrical sockets. Local authorities have promised to investigate the cause of the power surge to avoid a repeat of the event.

As residents begin to recover from the scare, the fire has once again highlighted the challenges many Nigerians face with unstable power supply. Community leaders are urging relevant agencies to take urgent steps to protect homes and lives from such avoidable accidents.
