TCN Alerts of Six-hour Outage in Ogun Communities for Repair Works

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned six-hour power outage in some parts of Ogun State. The outage will affect residents in McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin areas on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

This temporary interruption is scheduled to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

According to TCN, the power cut is necessary to allow engineers carry out important maintenance work on a 40MVA 132/33KV power transformer at the McPherson Transmission Substation. The exercise involves preventive checks to keep the transformer working efficiently and to avoid sudden breakdowns in the future.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will not be able to supply electricity to these communities during this period.

Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, explained that the maintenance is aimed at improving overall service delivery. She noted that the work will help reduce the chances of unexpected faults on the power network. TCN has apologised to the affected residents and businesses for the inconvenience and asked them to bear with the situation.

Many households and businesses in the affected areas will need to plan ahead for the outage. People are advised to charge their devices, store enough water, and make alternative arrangements for essential activities. Such planned maintenance, though disruptive, is seen as necessary to ensure long-term stability in electricity supply.

This development comes as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s power infrastructure. While the six-hour outage may cause short-term challenges, it is expected to contribute to better and more reliable power in the Ogun communities in the coming months.

Residents are urged to stay informed and cooperate during the maintenance exercise.
